We know how frustrating it might be when you’ve just finished a large video project or downloaded a cool movie, want to share it with your friends and find yourself limited by the email possibilities to send large files. Getting the “Sorry. File too large” error is annoying. What’s more, large files eat your storage space.

In this piece, we’re about to reveal the best and the most convenient ways to share large video files on desktop and mobile devices.

Upload Video Files to a Cloud Storage Space

Cloud storage sites like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive are the most popular solutions that help you store large files and can come in handy when you want to share them.

With these services, you can easily send large video files per email. Depending on your emailing service, the easiest way to share such files is to use integrated cloud storage: Google Drive for Gmail and OneDrive for Outlook.com. So if you want to send a file that is too large via Gmail, you’ll see the Google Drive button that allows you to choose your file and send it as an attachment.

Apart from Google Drive and OneDrive, you can also use Dropbox. This is a super easy-to-use solution that lets you upload files and share a link via email. For free, your storage is limited to 2GB of space.

Alternative solutions are Files.com and ExaVault, which work similarly to Dropbox.

Use Video Compression Software

If, for some reason, cloud storage solutions aren’t what you need, you can make video files smaller using file compression software. Solutions like 7-Zip (available for Windows, macOS, and Linux) can compress single files and entire folders. After the compression, you’ll get a ZIP archive with files that can be opened on any operating system with no additional software required.

Alternatives are Express Zip and WinZip. Besides, we have already covered video compression software in detail, featuring solutions like WinX, 8mbvideo, and XConvert. So make sure you take a look.

Use a USB Flash Drive

An old but gold way to not only share large files but also back them up for additional protection is a USB flash drive. They range from 2GB to 1TB in size, so you can easily find one that suits your needs more.

Transfer Video Files with SFTP & FTP

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, and SFTP, Secure File Transfer Protocol, are solutions that enable you to transfer files online by uploading them to your hosting server. Examples of FTP clients are FileZilla, Xlight, SolarWinds, and Syncplify.me Server.

Use Video Hosting Sites

Another way to share a large video file by sharing a link is to upload a clip on one of the many video hosting platforms like YouTube or Vimeo. This will allow you to share a video without quality loss. You just need to upload a video on the chosen site, make the video private or unlisted and share a link to it with your recipients.

If your recipient needs to download a file, they can use 4K Video Downloader. The free software allows them to one-click save audio, video and subtitles from YouTube, multimedia content from Vimeo, Dailymotion, Rumble, TikTok, BitChute, SoundCloud and many more sites. The application allows you to download videos and audio in the original format and quality or compress it to save storage space. 4K Video Downloader for Android lets you do all these on an Android device.

How to Send Large Videos on iPhone

The ways of sharing large files aren’t so different on desktop and mobile devices. On your iPhone, you can use some of the methods we’ve mentioned above, namely sharing a link from a video hosting site or using cloud storage which has mobile applications.

Yet, we’ll list some of the ways that are especially convenient to use on your smartphone.

Here are the two simplest ways to share large videos on iPhone.

AirDrop

Apple’s AirDrop feature allows you to easily and quickly send long videos. But this way has its downsides: you can only send videos from an iPhone to another Apple device (iPad, Apple desktop computers, or iPhone) with AirDrop, and since it works through Bluetooth, you have to stay close to the recipient. Your recipient also needs to connect to iCloud, turn on their Bluetooth, and enable AirDrop on their device.

iCloud and Mail Drop

Apart from AirDrop, large videos can also be sent through iCloud via Mail Drop. To do this:

  1. Go to the video you want to send and press the share button.

  2. Press the mail icon.

When you’ve landed on the mail screen, you’ll see a notification that the file is too large and will be offered to use the Mail Drop function.

  1. Tap Use Mail Drop to send the video file.

Your recipient will be able to download the file from their email.

Mail Drop works like Google Drive, which, in turn, can also be used on iPhones to send large video files.

How to Send Large Videos on Android

Android users also have multiple ways to send long videos quickly and easily. Here are the ways to do so.

Google Photos

Don’t get confused by the name. On Android smartphones, you can share a link with large videos through Google Photos. Here’s how:

  1. Turn on the cloud syncing on your device, if not yet, to allow your photos and videos to sync with the cloud.

  2. Go to the video you want to share. Tap and hold until you see the share button at the top of your screen.

You’ll see a window with an option to create a link.

  1. Select it and wait for the link to be generated.

  2. Tap the app you want to share the link through.

You’ll be automatically taken to the app with your link pasted in a message draft.

Samsung Link Sharing (For Samsung Users)

If you have a Samsung device, you can find an in-built feature that is called Link Sharing. This feature allows you to share files up to 5GB and lets your recipient save the file from any device.

You can use the function in any app that has the sharing functionality. You just need to select the file and then tap the Link Sharing button. Now wait a few seconds till the link and share it through any app, such as messenger or email client.

Alternative ways are also cloud storage solutions that we have already covered above.

Additional Solutions to Send Large Video Files

Send Anywhere

Send Anywhere is a popular solution for sharing large files that can be used online and through desktop clients for macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS. For free without signing up, you can share up to 10GB. If you use the X-Plore file manager on your Android device, you can find the Send Anywhere solutions integrated into it by default.

Here’s how it works when you use Send Anywhere online:

  1. Open the website.

  2. Open the Send tab and add the files you want to send.

  3. Press Send and share the code with the file's recipient.

Now the recipient needs to open the website as well and enter the code you’ve sent them in the Input Key field in the Receive tab.

Note that the code is valid for just 10 minutes after you create it without registering an account. If you have an account, it’s valid for two days.

FEX.NET

Yet another solution to send and store large files – 50GB and 7 days storage limit for free without signing up. This service works similar to the one we’ve described above. You upload files and share the link with a recipient. Following the link, they can find your files and save them all at once or one by one.

DropMeFiles

DropMeFiles is one of the most popular and easiest file-sharing solutions available. It also has limits of 50GB on size and up to 14 days of file storage.

The way it works is identical to the one we’ve mentioned above.
